It’s an Amazing Life!
On Friday, July 23, 2021, the Olympic Games in Tokyo started. In the past, I haven’t watched much of the competitions, but this year I took some time to intentionally watch. I was amazed and inspired as I saw the athletes push their bodies to optimal performance. I felt emotions as the US men and women placed in swimming and felt it when the skateboarders fell as they were competing and doing their runs. In one of the commercial breaks promoting adoption, I heard, “It may not be easy, but it will be amazing!” Half listening to the commercial, this statement stood out to me to the point that I got off the couch and found a pen and notebook and wrote it down.
The word easy stuck in my head and I almost immediately rehearsed the countless times I complained that my life wasn’t easy. I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many years that I have longed for an easy button to push – like the one from the office products store, Staples.
I started thinking about why I long for an easy button in my life so much of the time. I could list countless reasons, but when I break it down, it’s because I desire my life to be free from much effort. I want the absence of difficulties, discomfort, or care. Pretty much, I want an easygoing life. Anybody with me?
Life can be anything but easy a good majority of the time. As much as we want an easy life, it can feel like some far-off unattainable dream that seems just beyond our reach. Why? Because life is complex and has multiple layers that must be factored in. Adulting is tiring…. But what if we are adding the extra unnecessarily? What if we could reach that dream of having an easy life? What if an easy life really is within our grasp? Wouldn’t you agree that an easy life sounds amazing?
Well life may not be easy, but it is amazing! And which would you rather have: an easy life or an amazing life? When I ask myself that rhetorical question, I see that an easy life doesn’t appeal to me when it’s compared to an amazing life.
An amazing life. Who wouldn’t accept that option? The greatest part of an amazing life is that you are completely in control of how amazing it will be. You see, an amazing life is centered around you and your responses, your thinking, and your ability to make it amazing with your attitude and choices.
The word amazing means great surprise or sudden wonder, it means wonderful!
And that’s who you are, you’re wonderful because you are created in God’s wonderful image, therefore your life will be amazing.
In my foreseeable future, I won’t be competing as a US athlete in the Olympics, but as I watched each person give their all during their competition, I became aware that their path to get to Tokyo wasn’t easy in any sense of the word. It took the exact opposite of easy to get them to the level that they are. The hard work, dedication, perseverance, determination, and sacrifice paid off for an amazing experience. So, ask yourself this: what will your amazing life look like?
Prayer: Father, forgive me for complaining and always lamenting for an easier way. Instead, I choose to believe that You created me wonderful and it’s time to create an amazing life! In Jesus Name, amen.
Mantra for the month – open the Bible and intentionally memorize Psalm 23 this month:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
