Hello beautiful and hello October! I’m grateful for you, I’ve been contributing “Success” articles since April 2021 and as I sat down to write this month’s piece, it came to mind how much I appreciate the staff and contributors of this great online magazine and for you, the reader! You’re a VIP, you make things happen gurl! If someone hasn’t told you yet today, or this month, or ever, “You’re a VIP, a very important person!” There’s only one of you so that qualifies you for VIP status. And because there’s only one of you, take good care of yourself on the inside and the outside.
This month, I want to encourage you, because you’re worth it! We may not have met, and hey, we may never meet face to face, we may never connect on social media or ever be in the same space, but I know this about you…you’re worth it! Worth what? E V E R Y T H I N G!
Here’s my encouragement for you, may it sweep you off your feet as you begin to re-evaluate your worth and may it encourage you to be your best cheerleader and advocate.
Mind your thoughts! In my opinion, our thoughts are the most powerful thing God allows us to manage. Our thoughts can make or break us. So, we must be more mindful of them. Negative thoughts start out unnoticeable but will grow into a Frankenstein in your life. A negative thought life is depleting. I’m telling you; I have the t-shirt to prove this: the what ifs will deplete you, discourage you, defeat you and deflate you. What ifs are a controlled illusion that we often use to sabotage our own creativity and potential. So, cut them jokers off and suffocate the negative thoughts by not giving oxygen to them. Instead, cultivate good thoughts, happy, positive, faith and love filled thoughts because those will bring a bountiful harvest of good in your life. From the Bible, Philippians 4:8, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Equally important and worth it’s weight in gold in addition to minding your thought life, monitor your words. YIKES!!! Yes, this is equally difficult, but the harvest will be bountiful! They’re just words, right? Yes, but if we could see how powerful they are, we would be a better monitor over them. I’ve been in Christian and non-Christian radio on-air as a DJ for a long time, I’m a “veteran”, and I was told at the beginning of my radio journey by a fellow radio veteran that every word we speak over the airwaves continues to be in the atmosphere. I have yet to prove that statement, but I have remembered it and it makes me mindful of what I say when the mic is open in front of me.
In my private life, I’m not as intentional, because it’s only me, right? I don’t per say, have an audience listening to me speak. But Ah, I do, the audience is me and my children, and my husband, and everyone else who can hear me. The most important audience is the audience of One, the Lord! He hears every word that I speak, the negative, the kind, the unfiltered, the graceful ones, the irrational and emotional words, and the loving and compassionate scripted words.
Listen to this from the Bible regarding our words: But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the [similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. James 3:8-10
Now we understand where the hesitancy stems from in trying to control our thoughts and our words, it’s part of our humanity. The great news, the encouraging new is that we don’t have to do this on our own, we are only called to manage ourselves, that means being mindful and giving diligence to do so. Then, invite God to do what we aren’t able to do.
Mantra for the month: Always do your very best and nothing less, and let God do the rest.
Happy thoughts, happy life. Happy words, happy life! I love you, keep your face to the sky, VIP! And if you’d like to connect on social media, I would consider that an honor.
